A safe, comfortable, boarding cattery in tranquil Midlothian countryside, five miles south of Edinburgh

About

At Meadowhill you can be assured of excellent care for your pet at surprisingly affordable prices – from some of the most dedicated people in the field.

Gary

Gary established Meadowhill in 1998. He has devoted his life to companion animals; working in his own vet practice, lecturing in animal care, and running a low-cost pet vaccination clinic. He now dedicates his time to caring for the animals here at Meadowhill.  This, along with entertaining his sweet gorgeous Cavapoo, Summer, with long walks and trips to doggy friendly cafes.

Dave

Dave has a strong affinity with animals. After many years of living at Meadowhill and managing our busy boarding cattery, he is now our out of hours supervisor.

Marie

Marie has several years of experience working with different animals, in particular with the Royal Dick Veterinary School – where she completed her Modern Apprenticeship and gained an SVQ2 in Equine Care.  This level of knowledge and experienced gained at Meadowhill has led Marie to be skilled in monitoring the health and wellbeing of the animals in our care.

At the moment a large amount of her free time and focus is devoted to the training of Teddy, her “spirited” Labrador!  Which has involved a fair amount of training research and implementation.  Marie has recently completed her Caine Behaviour & Psychology Diploma with Distinction, and has an up-to-date canine first aid certificate.

Always bringing a smile with her, Marie keeps everyone motivated!

Wayne

As a devoted pet owner to cats Jasper and Milo, dogs River, a Labrador and Frankie the French Bulldog, and rescue chickens from Wing and a Prayer… Wayne and his family love their time spent around animals.

Developing a fantastic understanding of cats & dogs over the years working with them – Wayne continues to increase his knowledge here at Meadowhill.  Completing many hours of learning and attending seminars covering subjects including feline & canine health, nutrition, evolution and companion animal history.  He holds a Diploma in Canine Behaviour & Training with Merit and an up-to-date canine first aid certificate.

Extremely hard working, meticulous and motivated – we couldn’t manage without him!

Katharine

Having worked in a vast variety of animal care roles, Katharine is a highly experienced staff member.  With experience ranging from other boarding kennels and catteries, Lothian Cat Rescue, the SSPCA, Dick Vet small animal hospital, as well as volunteering in a reptile shop – often helping with shows.  Katharine has many pets of her own, including her dogs Patchy and Ruben, Hamster Leo, Kyle the King Snake, and two jumping spiders Bella and Benny.

Past training includes Advanced Animal Care training with Higher Distinction, Fear Free practice certification, and has an up-to-date canine first aid certificate.

Always looking for the next opportunity to improve the level of service we offer, Katharine is dedicated to the care and wellbeing of all our animals.

Rosie

Rosie came to us for her love of caring for animals and meeting new people.  Working for many years as a Midwife, Nursery Nurse and finally with children at Salters Gate School – Rosie has a caring and kind heart.  Growing up with a house filled with animals, Rosie spent time around Newfoundland’s, German Shepherds, and nervous rescue dogs, along with a constant family of cats from fluffy Moggie to pedigree Siamese.  As well as cats and dogs, over the years Rosie and her family cared for chinchillas, hamsters, guineapigs, stick insects and fish.

With many years previously volunteering work with us, as well as helping at a rescue centre in York, Rosie is now a valued and extremely hard-working, animal loving, staff member here at Meadowhill.

Paul

Paul holds an HND in Animal Care Management, a Diploma in dog grooming and cares passionately about animals.  He has extensive experience, having worked as a boarding cattery, dog day care centre and grooming salon manager, and with an SSPCA welfare centre.  Paul has additional experience of care as a registered mental health nurse, currently working predominantly with children and young people.

He has a particular interest in the behaviour and psychology of cats and dogs, as well as nutrition, so please feel free to ask him for advice.

Lexi

Lexi is our receptionist. Occasionally found venturing out into the Day Care now and then, just to see how things are going, she is most comfortable however on reception duty.

Always here to greet anyone when they pop in, with a smile… and a waggy tail!
